Want to live in Pawnee? Nebraska will give you $ 50,000 to move there

It sounds like something straight to “parks and recreation”.

A resurrection plan of the small town worthy of Leslie Knope Hers: Build new houses, invest in the community and see the city return to life.

But this is not imaginary pawnee, in – this is the city of Pawnee, not: a true city of true beauty, and now, a very true incentive for anyone who seeks to relocate.

As part of an ambitious attempt to attack new residents and revitalize the local economy, the city is offering $ 50,000 payment assistance for newly built house buyers.

The initiative is created to increase population growth, support local businesses and breathe from new life in this historic city.

If you build it they will come: Vision 2030

The city of Pawnee is a small, narrow community in southeastern Nebraska, around a 90-minute car from Lincoln and Omaha.

Then the type of place where you get each other, children walk to school and local businesses form the backbone of daily life.

However, like many rural communities, it has seen its sharp decline in the population.

In the 1970s, Pawnee City was home to about 1,300 inhabitants.

Today, it has only 850 – a decline local leaders are determined to return.

Their solution is to focus on what really directs growth: families, homes and quality of life.

The result is Vision 2030, an ambitious revitalization plan focused on shelter.

The initiative requires the construction of 25 new homes with a single family owned by the city cleaned of aging structures.

Homedo home feels a modern open layout, full basement, two or three bedroom floor plan, and a two -car garage of about $ 325,000, a rare value in the market today.

“We are blessed at Pawnee City to have an excellent school system, excellent hospital, excellent retail shops,” says Steve Glenn, Chairman of the Pawnee City of Trade Chamber of Commerce, “and what we need is only roofs and people and homes.”

$ 50,000 payment offer

As part of Pawnee City’s efforts, the city is offering $ 50,000 payment assistance to qualified home buyers.

The incentive is funded by the Pawnee city community foundation and is available to those who buy newly built houses with a single family in the area.

Purpose?

To attract a new generation of residents – while this is families looking for a safe, affordable place to grow; Remote work looking for a quieter lifestyle; Or Alumni of Pawnee City ready to return to their hometown roots.

“We’re setting $ 50,000 per home to help payments because this is one of the biggest obstacles for people,” Glenn says.

What is being built

The new houses would be built on a subdivision on the outskirts of the city, but in many injections scattered throughout the city.

Repurposing these parts have dramatically reduced construction, a savings that the city Pawnee is excited to move on to home buyers.

“You can imagine – this is essentially cuts 30% off the cost of housing,” Glenn explains.

Add the $ 50,000 payment assistance, and buyers are seeing total costs down to 40%.

Homes $ 325,000 are “a great value,” says Glenn.

“Unbelievable in today’s environment”.

A strong early response

Even before the start of the official marketing campaign, interest in the new Pawnee City housing initiative was taken.

Within a few days of a press release coming out, the city received about 50 applications for only the first two houses.

“They came in really quickly,” says Glenn.

“We have not really started advertising or promoting with a realtorĀ® or anything like that yet.”

The overwhelming responses underline the wide withdrawal of the program-and the incomplete question for affordable, high quality housing in rural areas.

“Almost a little overwhelming,” Glenn adds.

More than just housing: a rural renaissance

Pawnee City’s revival is not just about building houses – it is about building the community.

Vision 2030 puts a strong emphasis on the quality of life, investing in equipment that make the city not only livable but also alive.

“We are trying to create a rural renaissance -and you do it with the quality of life,” Glenn adds.

One of the stable additions is a new limestone amphitheater, funded by a local family and created to unite people.

The space will have eight, and even an outdoor show of “cars” – complete with a show by Larry Guy, who expresses a character in the film.

“Big cities are a big blessing when you can go to a show in Broadway or a great restaurant,” says Glenn, “but many of those things we can bring to a small town, in the city of Pawnee.”

Beyond entertainment, Pawnee City boasts the courts of Pickleball, a swimming pool, basketball fields – all designed to make the city feel active and connected.

Local businesses, including a grocery store, hardware store, flower shop and pharmacy, offer essentials, strengthening the city’s self-stupidity and the charm of the small city.

Which other cities can they learn from the city of Pawnee

Pawnee City’s approach is already attracting attention – not only from potential home buyers, but also from other small cities that require ways to revitalize their community.

For Glenn, the formula is simply: start with shelter and don’t expect permission.

“Many times, people are afraid to fail,” he says.

“You just have to jump with both legs.”

At the heart of Pawnee City’s success is his opening to the innovation and cooperation of the community.

Focusing on practice, the first solutions of the people, the city is creating a model that hopes it can be repeated in other rural communities.

“We’re building a plan,” says Glenn.

“All the key to rural America is shelter. It is all about housing.”

But perhaps the most important lesson is also simpler: let people know that they are required.

“I heard someone say,” Who wants to return to the city of Pawnee? “” Glenn Recals.

“And I said, ‘We have to do it, so we put the matte matte matte.
